Sochi 2014 Olympic Bid

Adore Creative spent two months in Russia writing, shooting, and editing the Sochi’s 2014 Winter Olympic Bid Campaign. When major international agencies failed to deliver, Adore picked up the slack and wrote multiple scripts including the spot “Russia: The Door is Open”

Award-winning director Rupert Wainwright then shot the Campaign, using one fluid shot that travels through 8 different environments, which celebrate the charm, sophistication, and diversity of Russia. Sequences were shot in Red Square and inside Kremlin ceremonial doors that have never been opened to the public before.

Wainwright explains, "It was such an exciting experience to be shooting some of the most iconic Russian images and places -- and a wonderful way to meet Russia for the first time. The crew was amazing from beginning to end and it was wonderful to work hand-in-hand with FCB Moscow to create the spot from the very start to the end. Obviously, we all owe a big debt of gratitude to Oxana Mishina - who introduced us to Russia, FCB, and the Olympic bid."

The spot, which has aired on BBC as well as CNN and appeared in 142 countries, was a joint effort between Adore Creative, FCB Moscow, XOVR Executive Producer Lee Nelson, and DTV-MA. The spot won a Mobius Award for outstanding international advertising.

The success of this campaign and international business partnership led directly to the Black Sea resort of Sochi winning the battle for the 2014 Winter Olympics, bringing the global event to Russia for the first time.

Behind the scenes of Russia: The Door is Open.

"Dear Rupert,
Thank you so much for this really impressive, impeccably shot and brilliantly directed commercial. Both Dmitry and I loved it as much as millions of viewers all around the world (let’s keep our fingers crossed) would do the same in the nearest future. Working with you (though not as much as we may wish) was really a pleasure. You know that “the door is open” and you are always welcome in our office. Hope you enjoyed your stay in Russia."
